Will the real Oscar Meyer George Please Stand Up

This dog trotted up to us on the beach--if you know Quinny's dog--you'd think it was hers.
We were very grateful that Oscar didn't bust loose and follow us the 2.5 hours, but at the same time we knew it wasn't him because Joe was not trotting right behind. George decision, next road trip--the dogs go with us!
ps: this dog is a female named Marilyn.

Damn it,we missed the turtle hospital

but, even better--Mike, my good sport husband, (who ran slower than a turtle, back in the day--when he could run), now has the equipment he needs to surf--which we did alot of this weekend.

If you can believe it--I rode the waves--seriously!! It was all about getting in the frigid cold water--Quin had no problem, and everyone spashed me--which just like being teased, no one likes, to be splashed with water that felt like jumping into prospect pond in Feb--but I did it~

Sadly, there will be no pics of me in my suit and flippers.

Turtle kisses, as they say at Top Sail Beach!

on the "who put peanut butter" in my chocolate issue

I'm always up for odd combinations--me and Mike are it, for starters.

And, I like peanuts and candy corn, and other oddities--that don't always seem to be normal, but they work.

But the combination of cinnamon and basil--even for me is something that I had to own for myself----so did everyone else in line behind me, once they saw it, who knew, you could get it at Lowe's--nice people there!

Happy Labor Day

Here is where we are going tomorrow--we cannot wait.http://www.seaturtlehospital.org/, http://www.topsailbeach.org/

After visiting the turtles, we will be laying on the beach and drinking something of some sort!

Our accomodations: the lovely Jolly Rodger: http://www.visitnc.com/tools_search_detail.asp?Propertyid=9031

Lots of pictures to follow-
Try not to labor this weekend! :)

Rest in Peace

Popcorn.

Beloved family member for I can't even count the years--has been laid to rest.
If you know my family, then you know that we are fine, knowing Popcorn is having coffee (or maybe Bud Lights) with Pumpkin and Chewy and Baby Girl in the better place for dogs. Dogs have a hold on us, and it is never easy.

they never forget...

for the first time--in a long time, I haven't taken Ben Butterworth home on this day!!
They are magnificent, tho--aren't they?

Lunch in Cary, NC

Erin and I went to this cafe on Monday--super cool, super good food, and you can buy original art--right there in the place. Waitress was excellent, a lovely time--talking to my big girl--plus the good food!!
Remind me, when you come to visit--we gotta go back here:
http://www.cindyshousecafe.com/

I love magazines!!

I get many,
Real Simple http://www.realsimple.com/realsimple/homepage/flash/0,23022,,00.shtml
mental floss: http://www.mentalfloss.com/magazine/
Better Homes and Gardens: http://www.bhg.com/
Ready Made: http://www.readymade.com/
just to name a few--but I am so happy that this old mag has come back into the picture--
http://www.victoriamag.com/
I was so sad when it went under, but I guess so where alot of others...so it's back!! Ha!
Check it out--it's not for everyone, but it is for some of us!
ps: more on my mag fetish later...because there are alot more! :)

Dumpster dive...

Ok, I'm usually the best at this--remember Dad--when you were having your heart attack and I made you carry a couple of dressers down the alley--I'll always be sorry about that! But you survived!!

Here is what Mike dragged home today , the super smart apple lives by the tree.

Lunch

If you ever lived or walked on 16th street in Moline, you probably enjoyed one of my moms dinners--she is a great cook.
She started with mac and cheese, and fed millions--and took it to higher elevations as we all moved out of the house and they could afford better cheese! :) Tonight I made one of her staples, a pork roast with sour kraut, tatos, and carrots--it always comes out great, everyone always eats it up, and for tomorrow--pork tortillas--ha ha , with the leftovers! I'm not Rachel Ray http://www.rachaelraymag.com/, but I am getting the hang of being Kathy George!
also saw this website for the healthy eating: http://www.chickinfeed.com/
Lots of good stuff both places for healthy kids lunches--good luck with that--Quin eats a ham and mustard (not botjes) sandwich, apple, pudding, and juice--plus what ever I throw in as a bonus--that I am sure her friends eat..
I'll keep trying if you do,
kg
there is some wicked weather here in Wake county today folks! They don't have "Dopler" radar, they have something called "viper" radar http://www.nbc17.com/midatlantic/ncn/home.html
--whatever it is, the public address system came on more times than I can count. Never did hear the sirens. I am pleased to announce that after 45 years of living, I now know the diffence between a "Tornado Watch" and a "Tornado Warning", since she was able to talk, Kaitlin was my "go to " on this one--just like my brother Dave every Easter Eve about his would famous, cannot miss--way to boil eggs.
they are both simple:
by Kaitlin,
Tornado Watch means that conditions are right for a tornado--Tornado Warning, means one has been sighted.
by my brother Dave:
Dave!!! Put 12 cold fresh eggs in a pot, add water, boil for 12 minutes, turn off heat. Color, hide, make deviled eggs, or egg salad, get botulism, that's your own deal~

Global Forgiveness Day

That's what today, August 27th is folks--let's all do our part--I'm betting we'll feel better.

of course this is according to this publication--so have at:
http://www.skirt.com/

And if you don't like the website, I globally forgive you:)

August 26th, 2008

Today is the 88th anniversary of the passing of the 19th ammendment allowing women the right to vote...can you even believe that.
In celebration, I--had not done this yet, but today, registered to vote in Wake County, it seems your Parrot Head of NC card doesn't do the trick!
Go girls,
(Especially, Ms. Susan B. Anthony. And, I speak for all of us when I say--so sorry your coins didn't catch on, but you are in good company with that $2 dollar bill guy!)

Lacy Elem Grade 4 Math

Here you go, at the buzzer--sound your answer:

The Gummy sticker Company sells stickers for $10.99 per package. Mrs. Stickum bought five packages for her class. What was the total cost?

Quins answer in her new NC drawl:

"proxomently $55.00"

I love Quin!

ps: and if we were telling her dad about the price, it would have been proxomently "free", gee whiz--can you believe it, Mike?

Little League

I only watched the final game today--and there were great plays, great pitching, catching, baserunning, and batting--not to mention the coaches "seemed" nice, at least on camera--and not so hot plays, all in all remembering that they are 11-13 years old, this is one of my favorites. (I may be biased having outfielders as daughters)

There is gonna be fun in Hawaii manana!!
ps: If you were paying close attention during the intro's one of the boys said his favorite baseball player was Cal Ripken Jr. (did you hear it, did you--yes?)

Art

in an earlier post I wrote about this kid, D.J. who quit his job at the Harris Teeter (there is also an earlier post about how odd this name is for a grocery store) http://www.myimagiville.com/catalog/index.php

Anyway, I ordered a drawing for Quin's room from him, and this is what we got--I love it--but it will probably be several years before I ever get around to framing it.

Meet the neighbors!

Mike, Quin, and me were invited to the neighbors house for a family gathering. Not your normal, but all in all very inspiring and cultural. We were ashamed to admit, before accepting the invitation that we were on our way to Kmart. This picture shows me, for one, looking like a genuine ogre--seriously, next to the grand dame of next door--lots of clapping, praying, and eating of dates--which were yummy.

Plant it, just don't hard boil it!

Eggplant!

I've never seen such a crop as the one our very nice neighbors have

Every Child Deserves a Chance to Play Baseball

Well, it's official--I am a coach--well, at least I have the uniform--games don't start for two weeks. Mike coached this last spring and asked me if I wanted to participate too! For the record, I am the head "George" coach on this team. I always did look good in a hat--don't you think?

Here is the link to the org:

Lazy Daze

Me and Quin attended this fest today. Lots of really neat things, pottery, purses galore, original art, wind chimes made of flattened silverware (my favorite), and about twenty two billion people + two (me and Quin)
I managed to score a kick ass parking spot--although I had the nagging feeling when I got back to my car it would be towed--it was not--thankfully.
Saddest moment, the little boy in line in front of Quin at the Rock Climbing Wall ( I didn't participate) didn't make the weight cut--you gotta be 40 lbs buddy--or no rock climbing for you, and the cutie boys that are in charge have a scale, and make no exceptions.
He weighed in at 37 lbs, which must have felt like 50 lbs to his dad who held him as he cried silently damning the rules. My suggestion that he head back to the funnel cake line to pack on the extra three lbs fell on deaf ears--although his dad nodded, and wiped more sweat from his brow.
In the end we bought a marionette--which before we even got home turned into a tangled frustration festival.
There you have it--here's the link--not the greatest--there may be better ones out there:

Back to School

What are the odds? Quin starts a new school, in a new town, in a new state. Her 4th grade teacher is doing the same thing, and her name is Quinn!! Wonder if the powers that be of the office made that happen. For whatever it's worth, we are off to a good start.
ps: the teacher looks like she is 19...but so does everyone to me--except Mike.
John, a good friend of mine, is the proud uncle of the girl featured in this article--local girl does good!

Method

Some of you--who live with me--know how much I love Methodhome stuff. Good for the planet, smells good, and cleans good. With that, I give you Nathan--not to be confused with Erin's boyfriend--this Nathan is way more obsessed than I or Erin's boyfriend about the product.
http://methodlust.blogspot.com/
ps: I'm an advocate--so every once in awhile they send me a goodie package of the new stuff--very fun!
here is their home site:
http://www.methodhome.com/
ps: it costs a shit load of money to ship laundry detergent, no matter how concentrated--just go find it at your local target...I wish I knew the way to mine...

"Q" garden

When your daughter's name is Quin--you aren't going to find anything off the rack spelled her way--right Kris, Kaitlin--and others. When she was little we started collecting the letter "Q". Here in our tiny apartment is her Q garden, and also a pic of the most recent acquistion hand made from a lady on ebay...it is so far our favorite one.
