September 25th

We got hitched this day, me and Mike--back in 1982...3 in the afternoon.

When it's all said and done, I'd do it all over again. (Mike may have a different answer!)

New digs!!

We are here, and we are settling in! It is tough as nails to get any work done when you look out to this view--although Mike seems to be able to.
Come visit!

St. Jude's

this is Kaitlin's cause--she is organizing this benefit--like she did last year, and the year before that. The cause is to benefit the St. Jude's Children's Hospital http://www.chilis.com/ourcommitment/default.asp--
it's a Chili's http://www.chilis.com/ corporate cause too--and Kaitlin has become the "coach" of this big event!

We will be there, and I will keep you posted with updates and highlights!

Boetje's update

Thanks Don and Rose!!

Celebrate good times!!

Good thing Kaitlin's bday comes only once a year!!

In the Red Farm

Went to the farmer's market in Raleigh on Saturday afternoon with Kaitlin, Rose, and Quin.

Bought from this vendor--really good:

every place you look, fresh flowers, fresh produce, basically what you think a farmers market is, but a whole lot better!

Monday

Sorry for the lapse, faithful readers--we have had company!

First game:

I didn't know what to do or say, but Mike (experienced) helped me along--I didn't take my camera, but you would have loved to see my face when they said my assignment was 1st base coach. I asked Mike (third base coach) for the signals--He told me it's easy, put your two hands together and clap! Which I did, alot. It is an amazing field, and an amazing group of volunteers (not me, the other folk).

The kids range from ones who are in a wheelchair, to ones who can walk with help, and to ones that can run--all the way out of the gate. (Rule #1, 1st base coach, lock the gate). The field and all of the extra's are just so wonderful.

The extra's include a kick ass dugout, players favorite music as they bat, an awesome kid announcer who assigns a nick name to each player , and--for the first game a scorekeeper extrodinaire, the lovely Ms. Quin George.

They ask for volunteers to sing the National Anthem, and Quin thought about it--she needs another week to practice singing into a wooden spoon in our kitchen.

I will keep you posted!

Kaitlin Ariel George

on this day, back in 1985, me and Mike thought we knew everything--seriously--everything, there was to know, on the planet.
Then, my water broke.
We proceeded to do a sit-com situatialesque routine of driving around Lake Eola in Orlando in a loop fashion looking for the hospital as my contractions increased at a rapid pace.
In hindsight, we made it in plenty of time--and what we received that day--was a gift.

We named her Kaitlin.

She made history as the first George girl born since Aunt Patt, in 19**. (**aka, a few years ago)
She has her Dad's temper, and her Mom's sense of humor--she is incredibly smart, strong, and fiercely independent.
She can lay floor tile, or--if necessary--look like she just walked out of a magazine, and everything in between.
September 11'th is a day when America takes a deep breath--remembering what happened to our country and I always think about that too, --but, for me, September 11th will go down in history, as a day that me and Mike were given a gift;
We named her Kaitlin.

Happy Birthday Kaitlin--we love you,
Mom, Dad, Erin, and Quin
(bonus love: Joe and Oscar)

Happy Birthday Eve

I'm a fan of calling people on their birthday eve (the night before, ala christmas eve, new years eve), lots less commotion the night before, well, except for Christmas Eve and New Years Eve--anyway--tomorrow, our daughter, Kaitlin, turns the ripe old age of 23.

Happy Birthday Eve big girl!

We love you,
Mom and Dad

cell phone

I am the original last hold out for a cell phone, but I have one now.
I can dial, I've managed to add things to my address book, but they are typed in gobbledy gook that only I can understand, and I added a ring tone. Yes, I added a ring tone--it's this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SP60n9v2YM
What I never thought about, was the song coming on the radio while I was driving.
Today, I nearly caused a 5 car pile-up digging thru my purse looking for my phone, and it was just playing on the radio--
lesson learned kg!
here is the Jimmy Buffet version along with bizarre vegetables, which I love:

Flea Market find

probably not everyones taste, but I could not resist. Reason being it was 155 thousand degrees at the flea market, and I was having a heat stroke. The "artist" does not have a website, but he was very kind, -explained how he makes these, and pointed us in the direction of something to drink. Shake hands with your Christmas/Birthday gift folks!
also, tons of cool furniture, mirrors, trunks --everything that I love--but the rule is, it must fit in a VW...and that rule really stinks.

dun dun da dun da dun da da dun da dah da da!

sing it to the tune, people!

when I supposed to be productive, I got sucked into cable tv for a 1/2 hour--

is this one of the best introductions for a show--or what?

ps: who is your favorite:

a: Ben

b: Hoss

c: Little Joe

d: Hop Sing
e: other

Coach Bob Reade

This is a friend of the George family-

although I am a Maroon--inside out, I'll give it up for this gentleman!

Hanna

Couldn't have been nicer storm, at least here in the Raleigh area--espicially, if you love rain in the middle of the night. At the George house we call that "good sleeping weather".
It was soggy this morning, we actually packed an umbrella--which we did need--other than that, things got watered.
Sort of like up north when they say it's going to snow; in the WINTER!
I've always said that the grocery stores are in "cahoots" (is that the correct spelling?), with the tv stations and send us off to buy generators, candles, batteries and what not, and their sales soar.
ps: (I bought cinnamon basil--see earlier post)
I hate to sound like an older person, crabbing about the world--but seriously!

ps: that said, I'm sure Ike is going to put me in my place.

you make the call, before and after

here is a case, where I like the "before" and the "after", and I can't decide which is best--I'm telling you--I'd take 'em both.

Below: after

here, "before"

I love before and after pics...

but sometimes, I like the before, better than the after--why?

anyway, from my friends at http://www.designspongeonline.com/ (but they don't even really know me:)

In this case, the "after" kicks the "before's" butt~ I think we sold the "before" in our yard sale--damn it!

a little luck of the Irish

When your last name is George, (it might as well be O'George) and your daughter's names are all Galic--you could only imagine the fun I had when Kaitlin met me for a snack yesterday at this Irish pub:--http://www.hibernianpub.com/index.php

I wish I could show you the picture of their library...but you are just going to have to come here to see it...I cannot keep giving all the secrets away.

ps: on the menu, we shared the salmon: http://www.hibernianpub.com/menu.php?id=20
ps: thanks, Kaitlin.

for pitty sake, don't shoot the roots...

I can't stop finding these amazing websites--this one is for you, my super smart animal loving nephews-Nick and Tyler:
http://www.rootsandshoots.org/

another good idea...

back to sweater weather..

and under the guise that "I can make those"--

these, I love:

Hope in a package...

I saw this and couldn't resist responding--

I'm a few weeks late on this mission, but better late than never.

There are orgs that you can choose from to support--I picked the St Judes one, because my oldest daughter Kaitlin has chosen that as her cause, and has worked diligently for them:
the pack I choose is for students from 3rd to 5th graders, because I have a 4th grader. Somehow, that calms my need to be in the middle.
sincerely,
Kathy Klier

Process the word

Mike teaches Exploring Technology at Martin Middle School in Raleigh. They have units like: digital photography, graphic design, robotics, etc.

Last night they had open house--you know the drill, you go from room to room as your child would, but with a shorter class period, and the teacher gives an overview of the class.

Imagine my surprise, when I saw this on his desk in a place of honor:

Of all the things we didn't drag down from IL when we moved--he had managed to hang on to 44 billion cords that belong to who knows what, every piece of sporting equipment in the land, 76 thousand baseball hats, every receipt for every purchase made since he was able to crawl, and this cordless beauty--that belonged to my Grandpa Klier. One of the original word processers--invented right after the pencil. Sweet.

ps: his desk doesn't look this sweet, forgot my camera last night so I had to find a replica on ebay.

Fall is in the air...

and that means sweater season...I salute the "king of the cardigan"

Tomatos, by Bill Klier

In every magazine you see, are recipes for tomatos this time of the year.
ps: do we spell it tomato, or tomatoe? Potato,Patatoe to you as well.
Anyway, this year, and every year, my dad grows them-if you go over to their house later in the evening you can swipe a few--the pic above is a picture that should be in one of my magazines--they look so good, but they were grown in the backyard of 16th street Moline. Nice job wfk! I won't even include a link, because these look so good! Grab the salt, and a fork (optional).

Baked Alaska

Not to be political on this blog, but I can't not comment on history in the making. I watched Sarah Palin's speech--and I'd love to hear your views. Although it most likely won't sway my vote, I was very impressed.
I will be saddened as the press rips apart every part of her life, every part of her husbands, and every part of her childrens'. But that is what the press does--fasten your seatbelt.

Hanna and Ike sitting in a tree...

or is that Hanna and Ike knocking down trees.? The weather people on TV are going nuts with this, just like up north when it snows. Just in case, we will be prepared--taken from the hurricane preparedness website with a few edits,

lets see:

three day supply of food

batteries

candles

smokes

beer

Wish us luck that they blow by without much damage. I haven't had all my eggs in one basket like this since what's his name blew thru FL when all three of my girls were there a few years ago. I remember turning off the weather reports and painting the basement for that one.
ps: Thanks, Mike, as usual--for finishing what I started-- once the skies cleared.

grab your gear, or I will frame it...

I love being apart of a family that knows how to play ball--and frame stuff!

Chicken dance, without having to dress for a wedding!!

My mom sent me this--and, if you know me, you know I love it. She also sent us a kick ass frying pan, where nothing sticks--ever--thanks mom.!
with the idea that there is good food out there, someone just needs to make it! :

We can't get no--Boetje's Mustard

You must sing this to the tune of "I can't get no, Satisfaction".

It's silly really, the stuff would sell like, well like, really good mustard--the kind that every--every one I know has in the swinging door of the fridge--where all the ketchup, jelly, jams, and bbq sauce is.

Maybe there will be a jar in my Christmas stocking this year--maybe, just maybe.

Quin's recipe for salad

she made this for us today--here it is:

cut up tomatoes

cut up cukes

cut up apples

cut up onions

cut up lettuce

shred cheese

any dressing will do,

viola!
ps: seaweed and/or kelp optional

We didn't eat here, but we might as well own it!

anyone who knows a "mike" could probably understand.
I never did get a chance to find out what the mystic treasures were--that's probably a good thing!
