Before and after

If you know me, you know that I love to take something old and turn it into something new--sometimes---but sometimes, you just, must let it be.

Case in point--my mom sent this down to Quinny and me, and told us to do our thing to it--

I give you before and after:

No big change here--because why--I had great ideas, we were going to cover it in maps, or paint it, or cover it in broken up pieces of rocks and shells....

in the end Quin, in her 10 year old wisdom said "I like it just like it is, Mom".

And so it shall be, the little chest of dreswers is in her room, and I have learned a lesson today-green dressers are in, and so are smart little girls. I'm lucky.

The Guardian Angel

For sure, everyone needs one--I've got quite a few...including assorted dead loved ones waltzing into my dreams at random times, trying desperately to tell me something that I can't hear.

And then I have the ones that are alive, and--for some reason, like most people, I don't listen.

I know, downer--but the reason for the post was this shop in a place south of downtown Raleigh--caught my eye...

We have fins to the left....

Kathy George luck--I finally broke down and bought a new bowl for our fish--the one who has been swimming in a plastic measuring cup since the week before Thanksgiving--and doing nicely.
My advice, do not upgrade--
That fish lasted 1/2 hour, sadly, after the transfer.
Luckily for all of you faithful readers, you didn't have to see me giving the last rights, with a spagetti tool, and screaming as if this tiny fish was going to possibly come close to hurting me..but, seriously--it was scary
So, in the spirit of optimisim, we went and got these guys...or girls, the guy at PetCo made no bones about the fact that he had no idea about the gender of fish...
Their names:
So far, we are going with:
Amanda--: the girl/boy fish (note* may change to "Anthony as needed)
George---: also the girl/boy fish (note* may change to "Georgie" as needed.)

Happy Belated Blog Birthday Greeting Erin 'Liz

This entry goes a little backwards in time....
Go back to January 27th 1989

This day,me and Mike welcomed our 2nd daughter--we named her Erin Elizabeth George, but we, for the longest time, have called her " Erin"Liz" (something to hum along to below :)

She is smart, strong, sensitive, kind, -and talented--and is one of the few people that can make me laugh so hard that it brings tears to my eyes.

It is hard to sum up Erin Liz, it is also hard to catch a moonbeam in your hand--and I've tried:

if you have ever had the chance to meet her, you know what I'm talking about--and if you haven't met her yet, I hope you get the chance.

Happy belated blog birthday Erin 'Liz,
We love you so much--
Mom, Dad, Kaitlin, Quin, Joe, and Oscar

Black History Month

ok--this is important, and the lady at Walmart gave me a "Kraft" recipe book celebrating the fact. What happens after--do we have "White" History Month for the next 11 months??

I'm trying to think about what it means to me--

To me it means friends that I went to school with every day--Marsha Smallwood, Spike Anders, Mike Little--, and my sister and brother's friends--Devra, Rommel, Dewitt, Skipper, and Mush.,--along with all of their parents:

and it means that my parents always welcomed them to our house.

It means that my Grandpa Klier (who would be 99 years old if he was still with us) got into some sort of "fistacuff" making sure that all of the black athletes got there fair shake at the old Turner Hall.

It means that we (as a family) accepted our friends, as our friends.

Back by popular demand...

(translation: I do fully realize that my Mom is the only one that reads this)

I just haven't felt like it--everything seemed trivial, given the times--and especially given the loss in our family, personally.

But, after consideration--I know Jim would have wanted us all to move forward--"get back on the bus", "talk about it", "hike the ball", and continue watching the cars "turn left".

So with that, it's time to turn to "the facts"-he would have wanted it that way, even if it was on a newfangled blog thingamagig.

(also, something to hum to, a song that, whenever I hear it--will always make me think of Jim.

Rest in Peace, Uncle Jim
